This is a long story… Well, it all began in Lake Central High School

in 1980. I was a sophomore and he was a senior. His sister and I

were friends and she had a crush on her brother’s best friend.

One morning she insisted I just HAD to see the guy she liked.

I was dragged along to the “Senior Hall” and introduced to the two guys.

I thought her brother was a “twerp” and the other guy was “okay”.

Yes, those were my exact thoughts, remember, this was 1980 LOL.

Shortly before Christmas, the Spanish Club, of which both her and I were members,

was making a piņata.I only heard this through the grapevine, and since I had

a crush on the president of the Spanish Club, I decided to crash the get together.

It just happened to be at Mark’s house. I’d been modeling at Montgomery Ward

and was doing a stint as an elf, to help Santa in the Mall. Well, Santa released

me from my elfin duties and I slipped into a pair of red cords with my red long

sleeved leotard. I was a size 7 and pretty cute if I do say so myself.

Anyway, I got a ride to Mark’s, and joined in the fun. I don’t think

I was overly welcome by Mark's sister, since she liked the president too,

but hey! I had fun and didn’t even know Mark was there.

In January Mark’s sister tried to set me up with her cousin, to go to a

dance, so we went to the mall to get to know each other. It snowed on

the way home so we stopped off at Mark’s house and I called my

dad to come and get me. The snow was bad, plus I didn’t want

to be with this guy anymore, he was a real geek! Mark was there again,

but I didn’t really notice. A few months later around Easter, I was invited

to their house to dinner, since they had a fellow college student of Mark’s

from South Africa visiting. We had a nice dinner and I guess I WOW'ed

Mark with my crossword knowledge, since they were asking me

questions they couldn’t answer and I knew a lot of the answers.

I guess I had made quite an impression without knowing it...

That June, out of the blue, Mark called me and asked me to go

to a movie with him. I’d been jogging and was really sore,

but I agreed. It was Rocky 3… We had a great time!

He invited me to a baseball game a few days later. Tehn we

saw Christopher Cross in concert. I went to their

house for the Forth of July. Soon we were inseparable!

By August we knew we didn’t want to be apart!

We decided to get married, much to both families dismay.

On October 16, 1982 we were married…

Here we are today… after a 4-year divorce we just got

remarried on New Year’s Eve! It’s so funny; I never imagined it

could be like this again. He’s so wonderful to me, treats me like a princess,

loves me, supports me, and babies me. He’s everything I could want and more!

I can actually imagine growing old with Mark! Something I’ve never been

able to do until now. I picture us, 2 little gray-haired people, relaxing in

rockers in front of a roaring fireplace, holding hands. ~sigh~
